Industries
Industries.
Every industry hands a designer a different problem. A coffee bag is decided on a shelf, a dental practice has to calm people down, a construction company has to look the same in ten years. Five of them I know from the inside.
Food & drink
Coffee, tea, juice, chocolate, a restaurant. The brand is decided on a shelf or in a doorway, in about two seconds, by someone who is hungry.
Dental practices
Most people do not want to go to the dentist. A practice's brand has one job before any other: to make the visit feel calmer than expected, on the website, on the door and on the toothbrush the patient takes home..
Sport
A league, a team, a race, a shop that sells the gear. Sport is loud, fast and photographed from every angle, and the brand has to hold on a kit at full sprint, on a scoreboard, on a bib pinned on crooked and on a phone screen in a stadium..
Architecture & construction
A planning office, a builder, an engineering firm. These companies are judged on precision and on staying power, and the brand has to say both without a single decoration: on the site sign, the truck, the drawing title block and the tender document..
Startups & tech
A startup needs a brand before it has a product, and then needs it to survive two pivots, a fundraising deck and a hiring page, all in the same year. I design identities that are decided fast, hold together on a phone screen and do not need redoing after the seed round..
